Reflections Upon my Pinch Pot.
Number One: Evalution- Good or strong parts of vessels
I honestly believe that the good part of my vase is the shape. The mouth is in a very odd form, shaped more like lips rather than just the simple, ordinary form of a mouth of a vase. I'm not completely finished with my project yet, but I will be using my drawing skills and designing vines and flower petals on the side. I will also be forming a flower out of clay as well and attach it to the front of my vase. All in all, creativity is my strongest asset.
Number Two: Evaluation- What do I think I could have done better?
The top is far thicker then I was hoping for. I'm also very upset with myself for not being completely finished, or perhaps even close to being finished, it all depends on whether I'm in my creative mode or not. I'm not extremely proud of my lack of patience, it's one of my many vices, but I hope that this vase will reach it's full potential.
Number Three: What are the attributes of my form?
My form is a tall vase like form. It is still quite fat, and definitely round. I want it to be able to hold flowers for my mom on Valentine's Day. It is a cylinder shape, round with flat edges, and it is long.
Number Four: What is the texture?
My texture is not completely finished yet... I have yet to finish my project. I'm working on making it smooth, and I plan on wiring clay around the outisde to make vines so it will be smooth on the side but parts of it will be rough because there will be clay-vines.
Number Five: What do I conclude about using the pinch technique? Why?
I haven't really tried any of the other techniques so I wouldn't really know what I think of it until I try other form. But I really do like using a hands on form of pottery, just as those centuries before us did.
Number Six: What did I learn from this project to apply to other projects? What lessons could be applied to life?
I learned that patience is a virtue. Not everything in life will just fall in your lap, already figured out for you. I already know I'm tenacious, I don't give up easily, rarely do I ever give up in fact. I learned to appreciate this about myself, because I may not be the best at clay, and I may not have any patience whatsoever, but I know I will always finish it. And that is something to be proud of and take forward throughout my life.
Number Seven: Why did I do it the way I did?
Originally, I planned on making a bowl. Slowly, I realized that everyone was making bowls, and I've never been one to follow the crowd. Plus, my mom deserves a pretty vase for pretty flowers. It wasn't planned, it was definitely by chance, and the way it is forming right now is a complete accident. An unfortunate mistake, but I will turn it into a beautiful one.
Number Eight: What skills/ strategies will I apply on the next project? Why?
My strategy will be to stay focused. This project, I was focused more on talking to my fellow table mates and sticking my hands in the warm mushy water because I thought it felt cool. I won't do that next time. I swear.
